ATA FEES AND CONCERNS

Every school in ATA is Independent, ATA is not franchise, and what each school has its own tuition schedule. Not influenced by ATA according to ATA in which I spoke with last week directly.
Its my experience and I have seen school pricing thats all over the board, from school to school. Also there is no reciprocity between schools (which I find odd at best).
I found a school I like however I have been asked to sign an agreement for 36 months for my family which costs over the term $13,500 (thats for 36 months). There is no cancellation after 30 days?

My son when to this school and had a great time. I never thought he would have done half of the things Master Williams taught. Before Imani Dragons my son was very shy and kept to himself. Now he's more down going and willing to do more. I can't thank master williams for he has done for my child and making self feel like family.

My daughter started the last of June with the first month being $49 (this included full uniform). Each month after is $99. The trainers are very good with the kids & adults. My daughter got her orange belt within a month and a half and her yellow within the next month or so. Each testing costed $45. She has recently been invited to join the black belt club. This is initially $149 (includes new uniform and current weapon). The monthly cost after will be $109/per month; in which I will still have to get her ATA bag and sparring gear (they can only use ATA certified products). The training is reasonable, but they get you with the cost of gear and testing. But overall it is worth it--she loves it. Hope this helped!

I recently enrolled my 8yr.old in TKD. The price was about 140mo for 2x/wk. But I paid for the year because it was cheaper, $1,400/yr. They then offered to me the option to enroll for an additional $50/mo. It was a special offer cause I am single mom and I would have to help them with writing letters and help out to get this offer. I dont know if this truly is a GOOD deal.

No contracts! no tests or testing fees! this is a family system I like to call it old school, you can find a Moy yat Ving Tsun school near you by a simple Google search. it's a no nonsense approach to martial arts training the cost can depend on your level of commitment and location.

Reading these comments, I am very lucky to have found my martial arts school. It is taught by a brother and sister instructor who both have 5th degree black belts. The instruction is great with so much experience and they are able to offer classes Mon-Sat. They are also partnered with a hapkido school which also offeres jiu jitsu groundfighting. You can go to these classes free of charge. Testing is only $35 and they let you buy uniforms for wholesale price of $20. They also offer the traditional weapons training for bo, tonfa, sword, and short staff at no extra cost. I chose to take taekwondo instead of karate and start at a white belt instead of get my red belt back in karate simply because this school was so affordable.

we charge $249.00 for three months unlimited classes. belt tests are $25 up to $50, graduating scale up to black belt. Uniforms are $25-$45 different sizes. Additional family members are half price and special low rates are there for those with low income. Classes through the community college are the same and cheaper by far. This is for instruction with the national Instructor of the Year in a huge facility dedicated to martial art only with up to six classes offered every day.

The cost of my Taekwondo class is $90-100 per month (2-3 class/week), 3 month commitment.
Each class is 1.5hrs long usually run overtime and have extra time for practise. In my school, the class size is small (6-8 people) and we do sparring, pattern, self-defense, power stretching, flipping and acrobatic. The school is strict and the instructor push their student to their limits. And i like the fact that my school will fail people in their belt test, so students had to work hard to reach to a higher level.
For my opinion, if you really like martial art, try a class or at least observe the class first to see whether it is suitable to your purpose of training before you made a decision.
I've been to a very popular martial art school in the city before which cost only $45-50/month. It's cheap but the class is only 45 min and over 20+ student per class, and honestly, i dont remember anything i learn there except a couple kicks.

Is anyone familiar with Master Chins in North Raleigh area? My son recently started a "trial" month there whereby he can go to classes anytime they're offering the beginners level for the 1st month at no charge. However, I notice that one of the staff members always wants to meet with me after each class to see how my son is enjoying the classes. They also continue to ask if we think we'll be joining or in other words signing a 1 year contract at $129.00 per mo. for unlimited classes per month. Is this the normal procedure with Taekwondo organizations? Also, is $129.00 per mo. a rip-off? Should I shop around?

I have two boys who wanted to do martial arts. Sharkey's was known to be the home of some of the elite martial art athletes on the circuit today so I was expecting to pay at least $250-$300 for both. Come to find out that the 1 year agreement was only $115.90/month ($225.00 down) and the second child was only $50.00/month ($50.00 down due at signing). I can't believe we are receiving elite sport karate training from one of the most well known coaches in sport karate today at an extremely affordable price.

Spent some time looking for a martial arts school in my area. I was very happy with the head instructor Maurey Levitz and most of the other instructors there. Each night's instructor seems to "unofficially specialize" in different aspects of the art or fitness so when I want Kata and a spirited teacher - Mon ; Conditioning - Wed. or Thurs is for me; ; Judo, technique and practical application - Fri. Its always beneficial and there is never an idle moment for those looking for to challenge themselves.

They have a family plan at $149.00 per mo for up to 6 members. Testing fees $60-$120+. Sparing Gear package around $265, must have by Green Belt (about 4 months) into program. Yeah, the ITA gear is pricey, but you will use it throughout your training (3+ years or more). School price is average for this area. Family plan is good but can you imagine buying the gear.

Mr. Emmons offers three different plans, a 1-year agreement for $110 a month, 2-years for $100, and 3-years for $90.00. This is the rate for one person. There is also a second and third family member discount. he has classes 6 days a week, and there is no limit to the amount of classes you can take. While there are extra fees for testings, tournaments, and gear, it is all worth while.

I have two children interested in martial arts. We went to a studio that offered 4 classes for 2 children at $118. We thought great lets check this place out. After the intial class we had "the meeting" with the sensei. The cost to attend and become a blackbelt will $9600 for two children. This requires a down payment of $3600 and then 360 a month. My children want to learn a skill, while the sensei want to burden us with the equivilant of another car payment. I am willing to spend money on my childs training, but $100 mo per child is more reasonable than a year contract at $9600. We live in N. Providence, any reccomendations are welcome. FYI: We haven,t committed to the contract, we are currently taking some time to think about it.

I was involved with ATA for Taekwondo back in 1982, back then a blackbelt test cost $100 or more. The higher rank tests cost much more and alot more work and effort. They also had higher failing rates which costs more to retake exam. Back then I paid $40 per month. Later I started working with the Police Athletic League with Shotokan. It was a fraction of the price but test were not as often and classes and locations were more limited. Quality of instruction was still good, it all boils down to time and effort with practice. The more I think back on it, I think the Pal was the best way to go. It was more like a club. Also many schools dont run commercial dojos, yet they do offer classes very cheap at local public school cafeterias as part of the community educational program offered by the local college. Some of these schools are not found in the yellow pages yet promote many of the local tournaments open to all ranks and styles. I also seen some classess offered at the local gyms

$119 initial month fee, $27 fee to the ita after 2 months of enrollment, $60 for belt tests, and cash for sparring gear once you hit green belt. The ita uses macho sparring gear, which you can get a full set of online for about 50-70 bucks, but since the ita logo isn't on those you have to buy the same exact equipment for much more. All in all its about 1600/year. Good experience, but a little pricey for me to recommend if for just anybody.

We were very excited for our kids and we thought we were getting a good deal but since we've joined there has been nothing but additional fees and costs. $175/month for lessons, $340+ for one set of sparring equipment; $55 testing fees. It has been less than 2 months and we are laying out some big bucks. I see kids with high level belts that don't seem to do the moves much better than my beginning child. And I wonder if it is more about how much you pay to get to the next level or the moves. There are others that started at the same time that didn't have to buy sparring equipment and are at higher belts. So I don't understand the leveling, the costs, the required contracts.

This school offers a 3 year contract at $95 a month, 2 years at $125 a month, or 1 year for $150 a month. Why should someone have to lock into a contract and pay such high fees? This is not to mention a $65 test fee for promotion. Kind of seems like an MCDOJO if you ask me. When I asked about the basic program, not including the weapons or xma classes, I was told that I could only sign up for 3 months at $295 plus $95 enrollment fee, plus $175 for the basic equipment. After the basic program I could only enroll in the leadership or masters program. I am looking for another school that is not all about the money and competition. Does anyone know what I am talking about, or had a similar experience? Should people have to sign a year or more contract to take taekwondo classes, or is this just a bad area?
